Dream Gate · Dream Seed · Gate

An exercise in keeping a theme in mind as you fall asleep: gate. The sound is a low temple bell struck now and then, the journey's gate motif, with a very light night pad beneath. Imagine the theme without forcing it; in the morning you can note whether it appeared in your dream. Inspired by research that used sound cues at sleep onset; the same effect should not be expected. A piece of sound design with no claim of any effect.

What do you hear?
dark · swelling

3 layers, 3 sound engines; generated on this device every time it plays.

How is this sound made?

  1. Bell−16 dB

Temple bell · 90 Hz, pattern repeating every 2 min

  2. Drone−20 dB

    Drone · root 90 Hz

  3. Cluster drone−28 dB

Cluster drone · root 90 Hz, 5 oscillators

  • Reverb: hall, 30% mix

In the room you can listen to each layer on its own, change its settings and save it as your own recipe.

Sound is generated on this device in real time; no files are downloaded from a server. There is a 15 s fade-in at the start and a 3 min fade-out at the end.

Compare with another sound

Hear both at the same loudness; drag the slider to the middle and they blend.

Mixed in the middle, the partials of these two sounds would create an unlabelled beat (4-40 Hz): the slider crosses the middle with a short crossfade.

B: neighbours on the map

8 trials, half of them the same sound; get at least 7 right and the difference is audible. The result stays on this device.

What do we know, what don't we know?

S · Soundscape, no claim

No health or mental-effect claim at all; it is simply a soundscape.

This session isn't linked to any claim of effect.

A session's level is the weakest of its linked claims; it is never raised by a strong but unrelated claim.
