Unseen Creatures
Calls beyond and at the edge of our hearing in six parts: the bat's hunt and the mouse's song (ultrasound, slowed down), the mosquito's duet and the humpback's song (the audible range), the elephant's rumble and the fin whale's pulses (infrasound, moved up). Not recordings but a representative synthesis built from the measurements in the sources. There is no claim of any effect.
Why this order? The first stage is ultrasound: the big brown bat's search, approach and final buzz of more than 160 calls a second, and the mouse's 30-110 kHz song, 100 and 32 times slower, as if playing a recording slowly; time and frequency come down together. The second stage is the range we hear, but sounds we do not listen to: the mosquito's 400 and 600 Hz tones meet at a shared harmonic of 1200 Hz; the humpback repeats a series lasting minutes with the same order of themes. The third stage is infrasound: the elephant's rumble and the fin whale's pulses sweeping from 23 to 18 Hz, three octaves higher; the whale's sequence first at real time, then 8 times faster. Every detail the sources do not give is representative and is stated in the part's text.
