Beyond Perception · The Missing Note

The first six harmonics of a 200 Hz tone play together; then the fundamental, 200 Hz itself, is withdrawn, followed by the 2nd and 3rd harmonics. There is no 200 Hz in the spectrum, yet most ears still hear the pitch at 200 Hz: the ear derives pitch from the common spacing of the harmonics. In the middle there is a comparison with a pure 200 Hz sine. A listening practice with no claim of any effect.
