Beyond Perception · From Parts to Whole

The first eight harmonics of 200 Hz are heard as the timbre of a single sound; they are not picked out one by one. Then only the 4th harmonic is shifted slightly (about 854 Hz instead of 800 Hz) and suddenly stands out as a separate tone. When it is restored it blends back into the timbre. At the end the shift goes downwards (750 Hz): even with the shift in the other direction, the harmonic stands apart again. A listening practice with no claim of any effect.

Cluster drone ×4 · 200 Hz
What do you hear?
tonal · even · narrow

4 layers, one sound engine; generated on this device every time it plays.

How is this sound made?

  1. Cluster drone−16 dB

Cluster drone · root 200 Hz, 7 oscillators

  2. Cluster drone−22 dB

Cluster drone · root 200 Hz, 1 oscillators

  3. Cluster drone−60 dB

Cluster drone · root 200 Hz, 1 oscillators

  4. Cluster drone−60 dB

Cluster drone · root 200 Hz, 1 oscillators

  • Reverb: room, 12% mix

In the room you can listen to each layer on its own, change its settings and save it as your own recipe.

Sound is generated on this device in real time; no files are downloaded from a server. There is a 10 s fade-in at the start and a 0 min fade-out at the end.

Compare with another sound

Hear both at the same loudness; drag the slider to the middle and they blend.

These two sounds can't share one recipe (different tuning or effects): listen to the samples one after the other.

What do we know, what don't we know?

S · Soundscape, no claim

No health or mental-effect claim at all; it is simply a soundscape.

This session isn't linked to any claim of effect.

A session's level is the weakest of its linked claims; it is never raised by a strong but unrelated claim.
