Frame Drum · 4.5 Beats

A low frame drum at 4.5 strikes a second, every fourth strike accented. Evidence that rhythmic drumming eases absorption in listening is limited; there is no brain-wave claim.

An experimental ritual. Avoid it if you have a history of dissociation, psychosis or severe anxiety. You can stop at any time.

Do not listen while driving or operating machinery.

How is it made?

  • Frame drum · 96 Hz · 4.5 strikes per second
  • Brown noise

Sound is generated on this device in real time; no files are downloaded from a server. There is a 10 s fade-in at the start and a 1 min fade-out at the end.

Evidence

D · Insufficient evidence

No clinical support; only laboratory findings, anecdotes or a single small study.

You can sink into listening with a rhythmic drum; evidence on its effects is limited.

Evidence level D: Insufficient evidence
What do we know?
A narrative review reports that findings on rhythmic sound fit the view that it facilitates absorption and relaxation. In an fMRI study of 15 experienced practitioners, trance with drumming came with changes in brain networks linked to internally oriented thought.
What don't we know?
Controlled studies are few, and the fMRI participants were experienced practitioners. It has not been shown that drumming brings brain waves to a particular frequency; the proposed mechanism is a hypothesis.
Sources and review note

A session's level is the weakest of its linked claims; it is never raised by a strong but unrelated claim.

Keep your device volume comfortable, preferably below 60%. You can also use your device's headphone-safety settings.
