Headphone test

Binaural sessions send a different sound to each ear; make sure your headphones work correctly. This is not a hearing test.

Left / right

A short tone plays only in the ear you choose. If it comes from the wrong side, turn your headphones around or swap the channels below; if you hear it in both ears, mono audio may be on in your device settings.

Headphone check

Headphone check: each trial plays three short tones. Pick the quietest one. If you get 5 of 6 trials right, you are most likely listening on stereo headphones (Woods et al. 2017).

Polarity test

Each trial plays two short bursts of noise. Which one sounded focused, right in the middle of your head? The other sounds diffuse, like empty space inside your head.
